The Story

Once, the islands of Oasea were alive — draped in green, fed by gentle rains, breathing with rapturous abundance.

Then, within a single lifetime, something changed. The rains withdrew. The sun pressed down without mercy. The land cracked, islands baked in crushing silence.

Among those islands lived a quetzal — a brilliant bird whose whole existence was motion and sky. Where she flew, currents held. Where she turned, storms softened.

But even she could not ride a sky that no longer lifted. The hot, empty air gave way beneath her wings. Her body returned to the earth. Her spirit did not, still luminous, still restless, still searching.

And then — rain.

Not much, but real. The first drops hit like they'd been waiting a long time to fall.

This is the moment. The water is here, but the land has forgotten how to receive it. Stone sits unmoved. Dust sheds what it should absorb. Nothing channels the rain, nothing holds it, nothing guides it home.

So she calls on you. Together, you reshape the land — carving lips into cliff edges, coaxing stormwater into slow swales, finding the hidden places where a droplet might slip beneath and wait in the dark.

The ground is ready to respond — to soften, to cup the rain like something precious. Deep below, an aquifer rests in darkness. Seeds lie dormant, waiting for the one thing that can wake them.

Restore the islands.
Come, the rain needs a guide...

Why We Built This

At its core, Oasea does one thing: it turns the unseen work of water into something you can feel.

Reading the land is at the core of Permaculture practice — how water moves, how terrain shapes ecosystems, how a single well-placed channel can bring barren ground back to life. The game mirrors nature: not a force you conquer, but one you work with.

"I wanted to build a game that raised awareness about the environment. When I started experimenting I saw the possibility of rendering the rain cycle in high fidelity. The game appeared through experiments in terrain sculpting, physics and 3D engine integration."

At the heart of Oasea is an obsession with water and randomness. Rain falls where it falls. You can't plan for it; you have to be nimble and react. Water is the first part of designing any ecosystem — it's where life originates, and everything else follows.

The name carries the philosophy. Oasea is Ocean and oasis combined. The sea evaporates, rises, and falls as rain on far-off lands. The Ocean is the reason the desert can bloom. The land and sea are connected, inextricably. "If we all respect that cycle," Oasea's creator says, "we can make the entire world an oasis."

There is a climate message underneath Oasea, but it isn't wielded like a hammer. The game doesn't lecture. It simply shows: treat the land and water with care, and paradise is the outcome. The feeling is the point.

"I built this game for the beautiful people who already care about the Ocean, the plants, the animals — because they'll feel an instant connection. But also for those who haven't made that connection yet. Perhaps by playing, they find the spark to become an environmentalist."

Oasea is carried by doubt and determination in equal measure — and by the people who believed in it. The soundtrack is the work of Zootu, whose music gives the world its soul. Additional contributors are credited in-game. Oasea stands for everything Dlightning believes in: sustainability, care for the earth, and improving the environment for everyone.

About Oasea

Oasea is a physics-based water puzzle game that runs entirely in your browser. Rain falls on barren desert islands and it's up to you to guide every precious drop to the collection pool by sculpting the terrain in real time.

Raise ridges, carve channels, shape the land. Each island is a different puzzle with a different answer. When the pool fills, life returns and the island blooms back to life.

With no combat, no enemies, and no punishing timers, Oasea sits at the heart of the cozy gaming movement: meditative problem-solving wrapped in stunning 3D visuals, a living Ocean, and a dynamic day/night world.

Key Features

  • Real-Time Terrain Sculpting — Click and drag to raise or lower the island, shaping ridges and channels to redirect water flow
  • Physics-Based Water — Every droplet is simulated with Rapier physics; droplets merge, split, and respond to gravity realistically using a metaball system
  • 40+ Hand-Crafted Levels — Lava fields, ancient stepwells, coastal cliffs, and monsoon islands — each layout is a fresh puzzle
  • Daily Challenges — A new island puzzle every day with a global leaderboard
  • Dynamic Weather — Rain, storms, lightning, and flowing lava all change how you approach each level
  • Living World — Quetzal birds, whales, manta rays, sharks, and 20+ other creatures inhabit the Ocean around you

Gameplay

  1. 1
    Watch the rain fall

Clouds gather and rain begins. Observe where water pools, rolls, and gets stuck before you touch anything.

  2. 2
    Sculpt the terrain

Click and drag anywhere on the island to raise or lower the ground. Build ridges to block water, carve grooves to guide it.

  3. 3
    Guide the droplets

Water physics take over — droplets roll downhill, merge into larger bodies, and follow the contours you create.

  4. 4
    Fill the collection pool

Route enough water into the glowing pool to hit the level target. The island blooms when you succeed.

  5. 5
    Take on the next island

Each level brings a new terrain layout, new weather, and a new puzzle to solve. A brilliant run can take as little as 25 seconds — a trickier island might hold you for 3 minutes. No two play the same.

What Makes Oasea Unique

Browser-Native, Zero Friction

No download, no app store, no install. Open a link and you're playing — on any phone, tablet, or desktop.

Real Physics, Cozy Shell

Water behaves like water — governed by a physics engine with merging droplets and terrain collision.

No Lose State

You can always sculpt more, try a different route, or start the level fresh. There's no game over — just a better idea waiting to be tried.

A Dynamic World

Day/night cycles, living weather, Ocean creatures, and a soundtrack that shifts with the time of day make every session feel different.

Daily Global Competition

Every day a new island drops — same puzzle for everyone. Compete on the global leaderboard or just enjoy a fresh challenge each morning.

Installable PWA

Oasea is a Progressive Web App — it can be installed to your home screen and plays offline, behaving like a native app without the app store.
